Allamanda cathartica L.

Nota de alcance (en)

Root and Flower: Infusion for jaundice and spleen conditions.

Stem: Bark decoction for a febrifuge.
Stem: Latex from bark is purgative.

Leaf and Flower: Decoction for anuria and dizziness, with Bauhinia scala simiae to treat impotency.

Flower: Antitussive.

Leaf: Infusion for a cathartic, purgative, emetic and laxative. Used to treat biliousness, malaria and as laxative in NW Guyana.

Root: Mixed with Aristolochia macrota in a malaria remedy.

Range. Origin probably in northern South America, but now widespread in tropi­cal America. Cultivated in Myanmar.

Uses
Bark: Hydragogue in ascites. Leaf: Cathartic (in moderate doses).

Native to Central America and Brazil. Grown in Indian gardens.

Action:
Leaves—cathartic (in moderate doses; emetic in large doses).
Bark—hydragogue, in ascites.
